First Showing Under the Stars of the Year

At St. Andrews we host a home show for all Equestrian Students - just for fun. They get to pick which horse they would like to ride and their class, once approved by their coach. This show is just a nice way for the riders to have fun and for the coaches to see where their riders are at and what still needs to be worked on. There are dressage equitation classes, hunter seat equitation classes, crossrails, 2’-2’6” over fences classes, jumpers and all western classes from Walk, Jog to Open and Reining.

The show started at 4:00 p.m. so everyone was done with their academic classes. Reining was first in the outdoor, and then the jumpers in the covered to follow. As the reiners began their patterns, the storm clouds started rolling in. Katie Mosca, junior, and freshman Kara Copeland were the first two to go, and as Michelle Hustad began her pattern the rain started. However, this did not stop the show. Everyone made their way to the covered ring for the rest of the show as the monsoon slowly started to make its way over. The jumpers class was Jordan Byrd and Amy Wrozek with their own horses. Amy had to scratch due to unforeseen reasons, leaving Jordan as the winner of her class. The fourth class was a costume class was quite entertaining as it was filled with a pirate, a bride and groom duo, a fairy princess, minions and the rest of the Despicable Me cast.

All in all, it was a fun day. Even though the show ran well into the dark, we really got the full Showing Under the Stars effect, rain and all. It was a good first event, and a nice way to alleviate all the stress from full-fledged showing for some of our riders.
